Warframe: Physical Status Effects

In my previous article I broke down how to understand a weapon’s stats, but I glossed over some extremely important concepts. The first of these concepts is status effects. A status effect, otherwise called a proc, is a specific condition that may be triggered by a weapon or warframe ability. There are a lot of different procs in the game. Some are commonplace, others are so rare you may only see them a handful of times in the entire game. The ones a player will see almost all the time are slash, impact, and puncture. While these three are extremely common, their effects are unclear, especially in the midst of a chaotic fight. Thankfully, their effects are simple, and once you understand what they do, you can take advantage of them to maximize your damage.

The first proc is slash. Slash is straightforward: when it procs, it makes the victim bleed. When an enemy bleeds, they are dealt 35% of the base damage per second over 6 seconds. When a player bleeds, they suffer 10% of the base damage per second over 6 seconds. Bleeding always bypasses armor (a type of damage reduction). Additionally, slash can proc multiple times on the same enemy, which makes it extremely effective at killing targets with high armor.

Impact, on the other hand, isn’t useful for raw damage. Instead, it causes the target to flinch and staggers movement for one second. This effect can stack up to five times, and can only be inflicted on enemies; players are immune. While it doesn’t deal a lot of damage itself, impact can be useful for stopping dangerous opponents long enough for other sources of damage to kill them.

Finally, puncture can help by making a target both deal less damage and be more vulnerable to damage. It stacks up to five times, with the first stack reducing the enemy’s damage by 40%, and subsequent procs reducing damage by 10%, up to a max of 80%. Additionally, the victim is 5% more likely to be critically hit per stack, to a max of 25%. When a player is hit with a puncture proc, their damage is reduced by 30% for 10 seconds, and it cannot stack.

These three physical statuses are a core part of understanding Warframe and its damage system. By modifying your weapons and characters, you can utilize them to rip and tear through any enemy that stands in your way.
